FAQ Wood Paper
Why don't they burn?
Because the wood is fully saturated with water , the Wood Paper will steam your food and then dry out. You will be left with stiff wood.
Can I reuse them ?
No, used Wood Paper is impossible to clean correctly so they can be cooked on only once.
How long do I need to soak them for?
For an hour. The wood needs to be fully saturated to steam the food and release the woody aroma and flavour.
What can I soak them in?
When we demonstrate we use water but at home we love to experiment with different soaking solutions because, unlike BBQ Planks and Roasting Planks, Wood Paper can be just soaked in wine, beer, cider or fruit juice.
The possibilities are endless.
Can I use on BBQ and in the oven?
Yes. Wood Paper cooks beautifully on your BBQ or oven. We recommend that you put your Wood Paper on tin foil if you are cooking on open flame so the paper doesn't dry out too quickly. Also we suggest you put your wrapped Wood Paper on a baking tray to stop juices from running out onto your oven.
What can I do with my used Wood Papers ?
We keep the used Wood Papers and burn it in our fire or keep it as kindling for our next BBQ.
The wood is still usable but just not for cooking !
Do I need to tie up the Wood Paper ?
You can tie up your Wood Paper with butcher's string or pierce it with a soaked BBQ stick. Scallion string can also be used for a really 'finished' look.
Is my choice of wood important ?
Wood Paper infuses a much subtler woody flavour compared to a BBQ Plank or a Roasting Plank, simply because there is less wood !
However you should still read which woods give which flavour and whether you think this will suit your food. You can't really make a mistake with Wood Paper, it is up to you what flavours you like.
Can I buy a multi-pack?
We would like to make a multi-pack Wood Paper so people can buy the range of flavours at one time, however we haven't found a way to distinguish between the woods yet, so you know which wood you are cooking on, without costing too much.
Any ideas welcome !
Are you bringing out other wood flavour?
We are always experimenting with new woods such as Chestnut, Olive, Pear and Apple in order to bring out new products, not just for Wood Paper but also for BBQ Planks and Roasting Planks.
Can I ship them abroad ?
Please check the custom regulations of the country.
What people have said.....
"I doubt you will remember but we came to your stall at the Wimborne
Food Festival on sunday. My parents bought an oven roasting plank and
two of the BBQ ones (my mum was the one being very critical but then
bought you a coffee). Anyway thank you very much for the wood papers. We just tried them for the first time tonight with some mackerel fillets,
green pepper and chili and did the same thing in the cedar wood paper
and also wrapped in foil.
The difference was amazing. The one in the wood not only had a nicer
texture but also had a lot more flavour. It also retained all the
moisture within the fish which was great when compared to the fish
cooked in the foil, where there was a lot of liquid left around the
fish.
I think we are trying the oven plank soon with a lamb shoulder and am
sure it will be great, the BBQ ones might take a bit longer to try!!
Well we just wanted to send you a note to say thank you for
introducing us to your way of cooking and we're sure that we will
continue to use it"
