Wood has been used for centuries to flavour fish, meat, vegetables and fruit over an open fire, it was the Pacific Northwest natives who traditionally cooked wild salmon from the Columbia River by smoking a whole salmon on a Cedar or Alder wood plank.
When a Roasting Plank, BBQ Plank or Wood Paper is soaked in water, the wood returns to its fresh just cut flavour and the moisture and smoky aroma is released through slow cooking, either in an oven or on a BBQ, to flavour your food.
Foods cooked using wood are more moist, juicy and succulent as well as more flavourful.

We are very happy to announce that Gary Kilminster, a Professional Chef with a wealth of experience, has decided to partner with The Roasting Plank Company to develop fine dining recipes using our products. We will be creating a recipe page especially for Gary to show his
expertise in cooking on Roasting Planks and Wood Paper and the wonderful professional recipes that can be created.
We spend a lot of time cooking on wood and experimenting with new recipes so you can see the versatility of cooking on wood and use your Roasting Planks, BBQ Planks and Wood Papers in as many ways as possible (as you can see from our recipe page) but we will never have the real expertise of a Professional Chef like Gary. So we are looking forward to the exciting new fine dining recipes that Gary will create for us to take cooking on wood to the next level.

Dan Millington, a student from Bournemouth and Poole College, won The Caterer, Licensee and Hotelier Student Chef of the Year 2010 using our Beech Wood Paper as part of his winning recipe.
This is the first time, we believe, that wood has been used in a national competition and we congratulate him on his excellent result, he is truly a rising star.
